Liz and Gail:
I am just going through the old postings to find clues to my Flood family.
Both of you must have found by now that there were two men named Richard Flood in New Hampshire during the mid-late 1700s.
One was part of the Philip Flood family from the Isle of Guernsey - well documented and published - this was NOT the Richard Flood who moved to Connecticut.
Richard Flood (the younger of the two) was son of Henry Flood and Rhoda (LNU) of Raymond, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.
What I learned recently is this:
Henry Flood and Rhoda (her last name not found yet).
Henry Flood and Rhoda’s birth dates and places are unknown - he/they are possibly our immigrant ancestors?
They were known to be living in Raymond, Rockingham County, New Hampshire from about 1745 (in Raymond, NH History) and at least they were there when their children were born; (citations found on Ancestry, LDS and google)
(a) Henry (1749), (he married three times and moved to Maine - served in Rev. War - last wife was named Jemima.)
(b) Rhoda b. 26 September 1750), married Samuel Nutt 24 November 1802 as his third wife according to his descendants. They were married in Newport, Sullivan, New Hampshire. He died 1808. I do not have her death info.
(c) Ruth b. 20 April 1761), married Thomas Hills 31 July 1810 - I am still searching for her
(d) Richard b. 13 March 1763, married Jerusha Rich on 1 May 1796 - my ancestor - I have his information after he moved to Chatham, Connecticut and his descendants. His first child was named Henry Flood b. abt 1800 - usual naming pattern.
and twins,
(e) Eunice b. 1767, married Timothy Gilman; and
(f) Emma b. 1767, married Joseph Barneau
Henry Flood Sr. served in Indian and Revolutionary War serving under Capt. John Goff.
Not much to go on for sure, but this is what I found so far.I don't intend to do a complete research project on each of these siblings, I just want to learn enough information on their lives to prove they were siblings as well as attempt to learn the origins of my Flood family.
Family lore passed down to my mother who was born in California (she was a Flood too) is that our Flood immigrant ancestor sailed from Ireland - so that rules out the 'other' Flood family who descended from Philip Flood of the Isle of Guernsey - but who my immigrant ancestor was, when he arrived on our eastern shore and his family information is unknown.
I would like to learn as much as I can about his Irish family - now that would be a real delight for me.
Thanks, Margie (new email due to computer being hacked)
