Carmody/O'Donnell/Burke of Niagara Falls, NY
Hello, I have been researching these families for over a year now and I know that they first came to Charlestown, Sullivan Co., New Hampshire, then to Niagara Falls, NY in the early 1850s to escape the Potato Famine. My earliest knowledge is that Mary Burke was born about 1795-1800 in County Clare, probably Kilrush, and her first husband was Thomas O'Donnell. I don't know how many kids they had but one of them was John, born in the mid to late 1820s and I know he was born in Kilrush. Thomas must have died in the late 1820s to about 1830 and not long after she married James Carmody. I don't know if he was about her age or ten years older. Mary had 6 kids that I know of: John O'Donnell, Bridget, Margaret, Catherine, Ann and James Carmody, my ggggrandfather. I don't know which daughters were O'Donnells or Carmodys. All of them except Bridget left during the famine and after James Sr.s death in 1854 she followed them, first to NH then Niagara Falls. Bridget lived the rest of her life in Ireland. Ann stayed in NH and Margaret and Catherine moved to California in the 1860s. The sons lived in Niagara Falls. I would love to know their dates of birth or at least the years and what was Bridget's married name and how many kids Mary had altogether. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
