Descendants of Jonathan HUTCHINSON First Generation 1. Jonathan HUTCHINSON was born about 1717 in Rockingham Co, NH and was christened 26 May 1776 in Smith House, Gilmanton, Belknap, NH. He died 5 Aug 1801 in Gilford, Belknap Co, NH. BIRTH: Source: In Deed Records, Jonathan states "my honorable father Timothy Hutchinson" and Timothy states "my son Jonathan Hutchinson". The date of birth is culled from his Marriage Record. MARRIAGE: Source: Marriage Records for Salisbury, Essex Co, Massachusetts. The Marriage Intention is dated Nov 6 1742. CHURCH: Congregational Church of Gilmanton incorporated Nov 30 1774 Isaac Smith Ordained Pastor to the Church 1776 Jonathan Hutchens and wife Theodate May 26 admitted OTHER: "Jonathan was a tanner by trade, though in one deed we have found him called (cordwainer)or shoemaker. He resided in Kensington on the opposite side of the road from the three half shares purchased by his father in 1718. On 15 Feb. 1759 he purchased these three half shares of his father and in the deed the place is called the homestead. In 1760 he was a grand juror and in 1761 sold his farm to Richard Sanborn Jr., and probably removed to Kingston, for in July of that year his son Levi was baptized there. His deed records show him living in Hawke from 1761 to 1763 where his daughter, Theodate, married Henry Dearborn. Some time in 1764 he removed to Canterbury, as appears by several deeds. In one dated 27 Feb 1764 his residence is given as Kingston and in one dated 17 Oct following he is of Canterbury. In 1768 he appears in Gilmanton, coming from Loudon, then part of Canterbury. (Lancasters Hist. Gilmanton p.273) His name appears among those of Gilmanton who sign the Association Test Paper (N.H. State Papers viii p. 234) but we fail to find that he took an active part in the war." (From A Brief sketch of the Hutchinson amily of New Hampshire by F.A.Hutchinson 1896) For the rest of his life he was in Gilmanton where he lived close to John Melcher. When his children were born they were taken to Kingston for their baptism showing an importance of that town to the family. From Mrs Emily Adams Jewett; The Hutchinsons lived at the base of Gunstock Mountain in Gilford, NH but the names have ceased to exsist there. The part of Gilmanton called Gunstock Parish was set off as the town of Gilford June 16 1812.(History of Belknap County NH) A road was laid out by Lieut. Peter Folsom's to Levi Hutchinson's Mar 6 1780 and from Stephen Hutchinson's to Aaron Moses Dec 4 1794. Levi Hutchinson (1761) built a large square house 40 X 40 on a road from Province Road to Marsh Hill Road (Middle Road to Lornia) but the house burned down in 1914. Also I find that Elisha Hutchinson was a nextdoor neighbor to John Melcher in Gilmanton. This gives reasonable expectation that John Melchers family met with Levi Hutchinson. Also in the marriage records at the Smith Meeting House it states that both were of Gilmanton at the time of marriage. Levi and Esther had the following children: 36 F i.
