Ludwig was born in the mid-nineteenth century. Family members state that his birth certificate says he was born in Poland, but he claimed to be German (perhaps born in the German-held portion of Poland?). He came to the U. S. and settled first in CT and then moved to CA, where he lived out his life in Fresno.
