I am not a Ney descendant but have a copy of a newspaper clipping on the above lady. The article was written by the grandson of the attending physician (Dr. Conway R. Nutt of Houston) when Ms. Ney's child died. It seems that Elisabeth had tried to keep her marriage to a "Mr. Montgomery" a secret due to the fact that she was sole heiress to the "Marshal Ney" fortune in France. When the child was born "it" (as referred to in the article)was said to be the child of the maid. All went well with this story until the child died of diphtheria & the secret was revealed in the Mother's grief. This is an interesting article with a good picture of Elisabeth Ney.
