Tauranga Hospital centenary: Gertrude Mason & Herbert & Reginald Wood

Tauranga Hospital's centenary is on 6 March 2014.

I am researching Miss Gertrude Ellen Mason, the first Matron from 1914 - 1920 and would welcome any information or photos of her. I have checked Paperspast and Auckland War Memorial Museum as she served in WW1. I also have some information from Kai Tiaki, the journal of nurses of NZ.

She married Crawford McCracken in 1925. He died in 1931. It appears that she may have remarried to ? Spedding as a Gertrude Ellen Spedding is buried in the same plot in Hillsborough cemetery as Crawford. Gertrude died in 1962. She lived in Herne Bay. Her father was George M Mason.

I am also seeking information on Herbert Wood (20yr) and Reginald Wood (16yr) who were the first two patients on 6 March 1914 who were diagnosed as "enteric" that is typhoid fever. Is Reginald - Reginald George Wood? who was a boatbuilder and served in WW1?

If you have any other information, pictures or stories on people you can send this to
