Hi
There are two NZ births that may be useful:
1878 BOYCE Thomas William James (Joseph/Fanny Ann)
1880 BOYCE Joseph Samuel (Joseph/Fanny)

The 1880 one appears promising; also NZ birth entries from c1875 included the parents birthplaces, ages, date and place of marriage - this may solve your problem.

I can check where this birth was registered and you can see if that ties in with what info you know about their time in NZ.

To get a 'printout' of the birth entry, check out
www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt
Do NOT buy a certificate - it costs more and has less information on it!!
Best wishes
Elli
