if checked numerous resources on the Prebensen family and although it appears Niels survived the trip to New Zealand, I suspect that he must have died shortly after arrival, and his father just didn't register his death.Niels does not show up on any records in New Zealand, other then the ship manifest.
Kind of a sad story that his mom and baby sister died within a day of each other on the ship, and then another sister died within a week at Ripa Island Quarantine Station, New Zealand.
The ship manifest lists a sister you don't have in your list, Juliana Prebensen. She was 13 and moved to the "single womens" section of the ship manifest. There are also no further records on her, so she may have died not long after arrival also.
The last record I found on brother Hans was 1917, when he had to register as an alien during World War I. He was living in the Aria, Waitomo District. He and Jane disappear after that. They were only about 45 years old, so no reason to think they both died.Even though they had no living children, I'm sure someone would have registered their deaths. The cemetery records for that area do not have a searchable online database.but you can contact the district councils customer services center at (07) 878-0800 for a lookup.A local library may also do it. If you can't find proof of their deaths, then I can think of two options here, they either immigrated or they changed their last name.
I put the information I found on the Prebensen family into a file, so if you'd like me to post what else I located just let me know and I'll cut and paste here. Spelling variations found on surname in records: Prebenson, PREBISON, PREBEUSON
Good luck with your research.
