Afternoon Mervyn
You should first start with that Grandson, working back, generation by generation, "tae mak siccar" that you are following the correct trail.
Once you get back to Archibald, get a FULL COPY of his DEATH RECORD from the appropriate (New Zealand?) authority, ie the Registrar General.
That Death Record MAY or may NOT have the name/s of Archibald's parents. Only by obtaining or viewing that Original Record can you find out.
========================
Given the 1860 Migration Date, it would be useful to know if Archibald travelled with his parents, therefore probably relatively young; or alone etc so likely to be older.
Either way, Statutory Registration with its detailed and properly maintained records did not start in Scotland until 1st January 1855, so Archibald is likely to have been born earlier, in the OPR (Old Parish Registers) era, which in this case are for BAPRISMS rather than Births.
Only about 40% of Baptisms were recorded in the likely period, 1840s and early 1850s; and generally they are BRIEF, with the Actual Bireth Date generally being almost an afterthought; and all too frequently the MOTHER is NOT even MENTIONED in any shape or form!
==================================
That's the reality of the situation.
However, there is a George Cooper record in the LDS Family Search site, who MAY or may NOT be the person concerned-

Glen Tanar is about 20 miles (32 Kms) from Cluny, so also causing uncertainty as to whether the correct person.
You can VIEW and Download a Scanned IMAGE of that ancient original Baptismal REcord on Scotland's People, run on behalf of the Registrar General of Scotland-

Any Scottish BMD information obtained from other sources should be confirmed on this site, giving direct access to the original documentation.
Saves many bawbees and muckle sillar, not having to travel to Edinburgh!

Again IF that is the correct Archibald, he had several siblings-

Try tracking AC in the Censuses on SP, he seems to appear in that for 1851; but have not traced him in the 1861 - so supporting that 1860 Migration Year.
Again subject to correct identification, this could be the Banns/Marriage of his parents-

The 1841 Census particularly may be helpful in tracing their parents.

HOWEVER, you MUST trace back accurately from your friend's Birt etc, to ensure validity.
