Gibbs family from Kaeo and Whangaroa
I am looking for the family of Richard Gibbs and Miriam Lane.
Richard and Miriam married in Auckland in 1870 and ran the general store and post office at Kaeo, Northlands. Richard was drowned in Kaeo harbour in 1876, leaving four children: Richard Solloway Gibbs, Frederick William Gibbs, Caroline Mary Gibbs, and Edward Major Gibbs.
Miriam Lane's brother was Thomas Major Lane, a senior partner in the Lane & Brown shipbuilding firm at Manganoui. Richard Solloway Gibbs was a shipwright, and presumably worked for his uncle. Frederick William Gibbs was a farmer, Caroline Mary Gibbs married a preacher, Rev David Weatherall, and moved to Australia, Edward Major Gibbs joined the Salvation Army and moved around NZ and Oz with them. Both Richard and Frederick married Nisbet sisters, Gertrude and Emily.
Any information about this Gibbs family would be welcome.
