We are related through:

David Robertson was born in Ayreshire in Scotland.
*Died 04/07/1918
He was the eldest son of Mr David Robertson. He left Scotland in 1856 for Australia, where he spent 3 years. Then left to move to NZ.

Mrs Maria Fairbrother Robertson was the daughter of the late Mr Orchard of Polesworth, England. She left there with her parents (I cannot find record of a Mr Orchard sailing with them) on the Joseph Fletcher, which sailed from London 5/7/1856 to Lyttelton 24/10/1856.

They were married at Kaiapoi in Canterbury, NZ 12 September 1867.

Mrs Maria Fairbrother Robertson (nee Orchard)
Born 2nd March 1849
died 17 July 1940
*Mother Mary Ann Orchard (nee Cope?)?????
*Father????

I'm new to this genealogy stuff, so am not that organised yet. But have a fair bit more info if you are interested.
But I'm pretty sure that my husbands Great Grandmother Maria Jessie Seymour Knapman (nee Robertson) is Maria Fairbrothers daughter. I hope that all fits together.
Warm regards,
Elizabeth
