William, Elder of Diss
Does anyone have any information on William Newson, Elder of Diss?
All I know is that he was born in 1749, and died on May 29, 1824.He had three children, John, William, and James.I don't know anything about John or James, but I am a descendant of William, who had two sons, Robert and Henry.Robert died in 1822 at the age of 15, and Henry was born a year later.Henry later immigrated to the US, and ended up settling near the city of Titusville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, which is in western Pennsylvania, with his wife and five children.I am a descendant of this line.My mother's maiden name was Newson. Most of his descendants still live around western Pennsylvania, or eastern Ohio. Two of Henry's grandsons moved to southern California in the early 1900s.
We don't know very much about the Newson's in England.Just that at the time Henry and his family immigrated, they lived in Banham, Norfolk County, England.I'm not sure how long the family lived there prior to Henry.I have heard that some Newson's lived in Suffolk as well, so maybe there is a connection. We don't know who was the wife of William, Elder of Diss, but we know that his father's name was also William, and his mother was Elizabeth. That's all we know.
If anyone has any additional information on this line, please send me a message.I am moving to Europe for work next month, and will try to make some trips up to England whenever I can, to do some research, or just "checkout the old homestead".
Thanks for your help.
