I, too, am very interested in determining whether the immigrant William Hatcher was married to Marion (Marianne) Newport and if so, whether there's a connection to Captain Christopher Newport.

Is there a Newport family DNA data base? If so, a blood test might help in resolving the issue.

Someone raised the issue of Marion's not being listed as a headright in William Hatcher's patents. Please note that the Virginia colony's surviving patents (with the exception of those recorded in county courthouses) were transcribed in 1683. By that time, many earlier patents had been lost.

Further complicating the issue is the fact that Henrico County's seventeenth century court records (William lived in Henrico) are fragmentary.
