I am just getting back to you after returning from an extended trip (25 days) to China with my husband. I have done only a little work on the Newport family geneology but am intrigued by the possibility of finding out more about the family heritage. I am semi-retired after working for many years in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
This may be a repeat of what you know, but to be sure I am giving you what little information I know. It comes from the June 1, 1880 U. S. Census. At that time my grandfather, James Bert Newport was 2 years old. His father was Robert Newport and his mother Elizabeth Jane Miller Newport. I have some old photos of both of them as well as the parents of Bert's wife, Ollie Ruth Bonnewell Newport. I believe Bert was the oldest of 8 children, all of whom lived to be fairly old.
My deceased father is their son, Ralph Edgar. He had 4 siblings, all of whom are deceased.
My brother, Gary Lee Newport and his son, Brandon Newport, both live in North Carolina, although he and I both lived with our parents in Edgar County, Il before moving to a farm in Vermillion Co. IN in 1947. I have several cousins still living in the Edgar County, Il area. They are children of my father's sister, Faye. I keep in touch with them and cousins from other of my father's siblings. His one brother, Gail Francis, had a son, Robert, and he also had a son he named Robert. I don't know where they live, but I am in touch with someone who could get that information.
Have you any ideas as to whether your ancestors are related to mine?
Thank you for your interest in the Newport clan!
Sara Jo (Newport) Munshin
