You have discussed this family several times over the years, and Iím sure you already know anything I could tell you. Most of the following is thus for other readers. However: can you confirm that Catherine and Threewits were Joelís children? You mentioned Threewits to me once, but at that time we werenít talking about documentation. I have followed Threewits and his family in Georgia and Alabama.
Quite a bit is known about Kinchen Newmanís line. I havenít worked on it very much myself because I am not a descendant. My interest was originally in assigning his children to his three wives. The second wife was Susannah Link, and I am descended from Susannahís sister Sarah. Either in this forum or in the Link Genforum, I have posted my conclusions. I suspect now that I may have to revise them (see below).
There are many records for Kinchen in Person County and some Iíve seen are from neighboring Halifax County, VA, where the Links lived. His name stretched the fantasy of census enumerators and of abstractors at Ancestry.com. Among the forms Iíve seen are Kitchen Newmon/Newmon Rinchen Newman, Heachen Newman and Kenckin Kewiman.
Joel Newman died in 1838 in Person County. He named sons Kinchen and Joel in his will and indirectly identified Polly Warrens as a daughter.
Joel said he hoped those two sons, who were his executors, would ďdo justice to each brother & sister,Ē so there were other children.
Joel Newman has been traced (not by me) to Sussex County, VA. His wife, or at least one of his wives, was Lucy Hill. The Internet has lists of Newmans said to be Joelís children, but I havenít checked them out. I need to do so now because it turns out that two siblings of Susannah Link also married Newmans: James Adam Link married Catherine Newman, and Nancy Link married Threewits Newman. Catherine and Threewits have also been listed as children of Joel and Lucy, and it wonít surprise me to find that that is true. The Link family was, after all, nothing if not loyal to the in-laws: three of Susannah Linkís siblings married Oliver siblings, and two married Turner first cousins.
At the time I was sorting out Susannah Linkís children, I wasnít aware of the marriage of Nancy Link to Threewits Newman, so some of the Link/Newman descendants I found may not have been Susannahís.
In another discussion of this family, I read that Kinchenís brother Joel and his family moved to Callaway County, Missouri. That makes them part of a group of Links and Olivers and other Halifax/Person County people who moved there and continued to be associated with each other for generations.
