It is, indeed, interesting to speculate, but I tend to believe the concept of Occam's Razor, which simply says that the easiest, most uncomplicated solution is probably the best bet....and so, I go with Ellen Louise's husband taking the quilt with him when he moved west.
James Franklin and Sarah Phipps Newlin are my 3 greats grandparents....but, I'm unfamiliar with the name, Hagey. How does it relate to James and Sarah? I have little on the other children of James and Sarah, and for Elizabeth, only her husband's name and her death date of Jan 17, 1888. I have much on my direct line of Newlins.....back through the original emigrants, Nicholas and wife Elizabeth Paggot Newlin...so, fill me in on how you relate to James, will you?
