Gloria, I'm Sandra......are we 'cousins'? It's always fun to find a new one!
I'm pretty sure I know how the quilt got from PA to Colorado. Ellen Louise Newlin, sister of my great great Grandfather, Elisha Phipps Newlin, married Jacob Chalfant, and they had 1 child, before she died. Jacob later married again, and moved west, and I imagine the quilt went west with them. It wouldn't have probably been a 'favorite' with wife #2, which explains why it wasn't used much! Probably just stuck in the bottom of a trunk.
Is this how YOU think it got to Colorado? If not, I'd love to hear your theory. Looking forward to hearing from you
