Newlands, Margaret and Marina
An Aberdeen man is trying to trace the sister he has never met.
Brian Rough, 67, was adopted when he was just one year old and is now searching for his elder sister.
He found out about his sibling, Marina Newlands, 73, three years ago and has been trying ever since to get in contact with her.
Mr Rough, of Arnage Terrace, said: “I only found out about Marina when I met some distant cousins a couple of years ago.
“My mother had her in 1935 but she left her with my grandmother to take care of.”
Mr Rough’s mother, Margaret Newlands, stayed with her mother, also named Margaret, at 13 Loch Street, Aberdeen.
After Margaret became pregnant with Brian, she fell out with her mother and moved out, leaving Marina in her care.
Mr Rough said: “My mother adopted me when I was about a year old and I never saw her again.
“Marina stayed with my grandma but I believe she moved out in 1954.”
The father-of-one has never seen a picture of his sister, but relatives told him she had jet-black hair and tanned skin.
Mr Rough said: “People have said to me she always had a tan, even in winter. I don’t even have a picture of her or even know if she’s been married.”
After meeting a great aunt, Mr Rough now believes his sister may have moved to London when she was in her 20s and she could have possibly emigrated to Australia.
He has managed to trace other siblings in Stafford and his new extended family are all desperate to meet the sister they never knew they had.
If anyone has information about Marina or where she may be, Brian Rough would appreciate a call on 01224 696548.
