Sarah Susan Newland-- of the "William Newman" family KY/MO
I am looking for information on the heritage of Sarah Susan Newland who married James Grafton Whaley in 1849. Her Obituary reads as follows:
1 Feb 1906 Owingsville Outlook
Mrs. Sarah Susan Whaley who death was mentioned last week, died at the home
of her daughter Mrs. Thomas L. Jones of consumption. She was the last member of
William Newland's family and was born May 30, 1830 and died Jan. 22, 1906. Married
to Charles G. Whaley Oct. 4, 1849. Eleven children, seven surviving: Mrs. George
Moxley, Mrs. Thomas L. Jones, David and Tolliver, of this county; Mrs. Thomas L.
Garner and U.G. (Doc) of Missouri; Mrs. Warren Stewart of Illinois. She was a member
of the Christian Church at White Oak. Funeral Tuesday by Elder B.H. Parker. Burial in -
-- cemetery. (Article damaged). Odessa.
I retrieved the obituary off of KYGENWEB, BATH COUNTY VITAL STATISTICS.
In most US Censuses, she lists herself as born in Missouri. She was married in Bath COunty, Kentucky, most likely. She and Charles lived their entire married lives in Bath County Kentucky.
I believe she may be the child of William Newlands and Artimitia-- a marriage record on kygenweb shows her maiden name as LORVENCY-- and I did a google search, genealogy searches, everything I could think of, and there is NO OTHER RECORD OF THIS SURNAME IN ANY USE EXCEPT FOR HER MARRIAGE RECORD. I need to see if I can look the original record up and see what it really says.
