Joe,
My ggggrandfather, Isaac Anthony Newland married Hannah Hicks. Her parents were James Hicks and Sarah Davis.James Hicks had a brother, Absolom Hicks who married Elizabeth Davis.
My husband and I are both related to the parents of James and Absolom Hicks, a fact we just recently discovered.
Jamesand Sarah Davis Hicks' line through Hannah and Isaac Newland, descends thus:
Isaac and Hannah Hicks Newlsnd
James Davis and Dillie Hudson Newland
Silas and Rachel Botts Newland
Charles A. and Lola Nellie Robertson Newland
Charles Mordicai and Bernice Tate Newland,....who were my parents.
Absolom and Elizabeth Davis Hicks through their daughter, Sarah descends thus:
Sarah Hicks and Silas Riggs
Sarah Riggs and Michael Wolfe
Elizabeth Wolfe and George Love
Ernest Love and Bea Taylor
Kenneth Love....my husband
I believe the John Newland you are referring to was the BROTHER of Isaac (1752-1808) who married Martha Hawkins.Isaac and Martha, in my opinion are the parents of Isaac Anthony who married Hannah Hicks. There is overwhelming evidence that leads to this conclusion, and much of it I sent to you in an e-mail just recently.
The following is a listing from the Bible pages of James Newland, the youngest son of "John Newland who died in 1833 at the age of near 90," in Wythe County, VA.
"Savina his 2nd wife deceased in 1801"
Ezekiel was born March 4, 1769
John was born Dec. 21, 1771
ISAAC was born Sept 1773
Joseph was born April 1776
Abraham was born Jan. 16, 1781
Sally was born april 29, 1783
Henry was born August 13, 1785
William was born August 24, 1787
Mary was born May 5th 1789
Jesse was born May 20, 1791
David was born July 15, 1793
Lydia was born Nov. 22, 1795
Elizabeth was born May 14, 1798
James N. was born March 11, 1800
Members of this family are buried in Rural Retreat, Wythe County, VA.
I don't think either of the Isaacs in my line are the ones you are searching for..but Isaacs were plentiful, Lord knows!
If you would like to have a transcript of the will of John Newland of Wythe County, dated 1831, and presented in court in 1833, I can get a copy to you.He mentions his sons Isaac, Joseph, Henry, William, and Jesse and daughter,
Elizabeth Mitchel, childred of daughter Sara Burge, Children of deceased sons John Newland and Ezekiel Newland and children of deceased daughter, Polly Maddox, as well as his son James "whereas I have heretofore given to my son James Newland a considerable quantity of land and three negroes to wit: Stephen, Edy, and Frederick which he has received, I will he receive nothing more from my estate."
I hope this helps you.
Shirley
