A series of wills in King George & Fauquier Co., VA show that Edward Newgent whose will was probated in 1728 had been previously married and had at least two children: Dominick Newgent and the mother of Capt. Lincefield Sharpe who served at Yorktown.

Edward's second marriage was to Frances Nelson, widow of William Nelson. They had a son, James Nelson.

Edward Newgent & Frances Nelson had at least four children:
1. Thomas Newgent, never married.
2. Ann Newgent never married.
3. A daughter who married Thomas Ballard. They had two children: William Ballard & Mary Nugent Ballard who married George Hampton.
4. Edward Newgent (Nugent) my 4g gf. He achieved Patriot status and his descendants are eligible for the DAR and the SAR. Fauquier Co. court records show that he donated 3-3/4 gal of brandy to the troops. Edward married Elizabeth Garner, d/o Charles & Ann Darnell Garner (not Elizabeth Conway). Much erroneous information about him is included in the Biographical section of the Putnam Co., IN history.
