Neubauer to Newfarmer
During the enumeration of the United States Federal Census of Miami Township, Logen County, Ohio with postoffice at DeGraffe on 29 June 1810 Henry Newfarmer, age 32 years born France and a family of 7 childern, his wife and his mother Catharina Newfarmer were all listed with the household head one William Polk. The birthplace of HenryNewfarmer, his wife Christina, their son, Henry and Catharine Newfarmer were all listed as born in France. Henry Newfarmer age 32, Christina 33, Henry (Jr)12, Frederik 10, Solomon 8, Mary 9, Jacob 8, Magdalena 5, William 5 months, and the mother of Henry (sr), Catharina 58.
In 1870 Census made in Harrison Township, Champaign County, Ohio P.O. Kingston we see that evidently the household of Henry changed. Obviously the same person based upon name and age, Henry is now shown at age 41 keeping tavern. He also evidently remarried to a Henrietta who was 39,born in Ohio. Two young children Edwin age 2 years and Effa age 3 months were in the home.
During the next few years I find Henry's sons mainly located in Logan County where they were living in 1860. I also find Henry's mother Catherine Newfarmer has moved to live with relatives in Randolph County, Indiana.
I would like to hear from any possible descendants of this Henry Newfarmer and/or anyone who may suspect he may be related to their family. I believe I can provide quite a lot of the Eurpean information on this Newfarmer family who was correctly known by their German name of Neubauer, not in Germany proper, but in the northeastern part of France which historically was owned by German counts of Nassau. This area became part of France in 1793 and was annexed to Bas-Rhin which had been the "unter Elsass" or lower Alsace and was acquired by France at the end of the Thrity Years War in 1793. John V.
