There are many unrelated Newnham families in various parts of the UK, and you would need to find out where he came from and his age from census, immigration returns or other sources first. Even the soldier bit isn't much help as many men served during the wars with France from the late 18th to after Waterloo in 1815, as well as the wars with America, and in other parts of the then British Empire such as the Carribean and India.
