Owen M & Alfred Newcomb (Nova Scotia) but German Descent

Hello: I just came across the website and have not had time to look at all the postings but will in the next few days!!

I am researching the Newcomb family tree for my parents in law who live in Nova Scotia. I have Owen M. Newcomb born October 18, 1874 in Nova Scotia. His father was Alfred Newcomb born about 1841 in Nova Scotia. Owen was married to Lillie or Lillia Uhlman born June 16, 1880 in NOva Scotia and it looks as if Alfred, Owen's father, was married to Letitia Uhlman born around 1851 in NS.

On the 1871 census of Canada, Alfred states that his "origin" is German and on the 1881 Canadian census, Owen and all his siblings state their "origin" as German. I thought it would be English but it is definitely German. German is the Uhlman heritage as well.

So........has anyone heard of Newcomb being German or of a German line of Newcombs in Nova Scotia? If so, I would appreciate hearing from you or learning where I could research this more. I am on under Stillwell family tree (in laws) and have the Burns family tree for my own relations. If you like, please email me at my home address:

Thank you very much.
Sincerely, Bonnie in Winnipeg, Canada
