Searching for information on my ggggrandfather, William M Newby, born in Wayne County, Indiana, 5 February 1827. W
William married Eliza Maudlin and moved to Illinois. In 1859, he purchased land in Harrison County, Missouri and moved his growing family to Missouri as stated in the 1860 Federal census. In 1862, William became a member of the Missouri Home Guard and then transferred into the Missouri state militia.
In 1863, he resigned from the melitia and we cannot find any further information regarding his death or burial location. His widow, Eliza, moved back to Wayne county, Indiana as per the 1865 city directory, the older children scattered and the younger children resided with Eliza's parents, the Maudlins.
