David NEWBOLD, b. ca 1828, in either Leicestshire or Nottingham, was my second great-grandfather.My grandparents, Thomas and Mary (nee NEWBOLD) BISHOP, were
married Christmas Day, 1883, in Paris, Brant County, Ontario, Canada (he was 24, she 22).Her parents are listed as David and Mary Ann NEWBOLD.Witnesses were George and Annie NEWBOLD; I do not know if they were Mary's
brother and sister or brother and sister-in-law.I do know
my grandparents returned to Nottingham, England (where he was born) in 1886, when my grandfather, John George BISHOP,
Sr. was two years old.
The 1881 British Census in Sneinton, Nottingham, shows
NEWBOLD, Head of Household, married, female, age 52, birthplace Castle Donnington, Nottingham, England.Children listed were Annie, 24 yrs, b/p Nottingham; George, 22 yrs, b/p Nottingham; Mary, 20 yrs, b/p Nottingham (I have a strong hunch this is my great-grandmother; Robert, 18 yrs, b/p Nottingham; Clara, 13 yrs,
b/p Nottingham and lastly, David, 11 yrs, b/p Nottingham.
Where was the father??On his way to Canada??They must
have relocated there between 1881 and 1883, when my great-grandparents married.
Hoping to hear from someone with any information on this family!
