You mention the William Newbigging, that was married to Marion Ramsey, well, can you tell me whether your William had a sister called Helen Newbigging, who married a George Williamson, and went on to have 9 children.
I have a Helen Newbigging married to George, I have an approx date of birth for her as 1850 in Symington. I do not have her parents names, but her children were named, in this order ;
Marion, Ann, Janet, William, James George, John etc etc. I am perhaps jumping the gun here, but if you take the Scottish nameing order into account, as I understand it, the first named female child is named after the wife's mother, ( hence I am presuming!!! that Helens mother is named Marion) then the first son after the husbands father, etc etc. Now George's father was called William, but if Helen's father was also named William, that could tie in as well. I have found, on the British Vital Records Index a number of children born to William Newbigging and his wife Marion Ramsey, a Margaret born 1844, William born 1846, Janet born 1851, and James born 1853. There was also a Helen born to the same parents, born in 1849.
I would love to hear from you
