CENTRAL ILLINOIS OBITUARIES : NEVILLE, DR. FRANCIS ALVIN

ANSWERS FINAL CALL WHILE AT POST OF DUTY

Dr. F.A. Neville Stricken Suddenly Monday Night While Attending Patient East of Town.

Dr. F.A. Neville, a well known and highly respected physician of this place, passed away suddenly Monday night, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Bruening living east of town where he had been called to attend a patient.

The Doctor became ill about nine o'clock and Drs. Norris and Sheffield of Jacksonville were called as was also the doctor's wife, Dr. Lois Neville, all of whom reached his side before the end which came about midnight when they had moved him at his request, to Dr. Norris' car to carry him to his home.

In spite of failing health for some time past, the doctor was attending to his professional duties, and so died as he had lived always at his post of duty.

A pall of sadness was cast over our city and community by the death of this good man who was not only a good physician, but a good friend and brother to all with whom he came in contact. Truly, he was one who lived in a house by the side of the road and was a friend to man.

Dr. Neville, during the 38 years of his residence here, gave himself unsparingly to the service of the community always ready to go when called without thought of compensation or personal comfort. He was broad-minded in his views and possessed a genial disposition which so endeared him to the hearts of the people.

During his long residence in our midst he has filled many positions of trust being several times a member of the city council and for the past several years was health officer. For many years he has served on the official board of the M.E. church of which he was an honored member.

Dr. Neville was a prominent Mason having served for nine years as Master of Benevolent Lodge No. 52, A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of Meredosia Chapter No. 11, R.A.M., Meredosia Council No. 68, R. & S.M., Quincy Consistory S.P.R.S., Hospitalier Commandery of Jacksonville, Ansar Temple Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, of Springfield, Ill., and was also past Worthy Patron of Trinity Chapter No. 636, O.E.S. of Meredosia.
