The Middlesex County, Massachusetts, Probate Records contain the Last Will and Testament of Richard Nevers, which mentions his widow Martha, his eldest son Samuel, born 16 Dec 1689, his son Elisha, his daughter Martha, born 20 Jul 1698, and his daughter Mary, born 9 Jul 1694.

Son Elisha was still a minor when his father Richard Nevers died. The Probate Court records for Middlesex County, Massachusetts show that "Guardianship to Elisha Nevers, son of the late Richard Nevers, late of Woburn in the County of Middlesex, decd., a minor in his sixteenth years of his age, at his own nomination is committed to Captain Ebenezer Hogg of the same place, and bond is taken for his faithful discharge of this trust in 100 pounds, at Cambridge, 8th April 1717. (signed) Francis Foxcroft, Judge of Probate for Middl. County" This Elisha Nevers married Bathsheba Green and they removed to New Brunswick about 1765.

Hilda Gallagher, of Limestone, Aroostook Co., Maine, compiled Nevers family history notes in the 1960s. She said Samuel, son of Richard Nevers, had a wife Deborah, and they had a son Samuel Nevers II b. 20 Jun 1715. Samuel Nevers II and his wife Susanne Williams had a son Samuel Williams Nevers III, born 2 Nov 1741 and died in Jun 1742. They then adopted a son who they named Samuel. Hilda's notes say his birth name was Thomas Marshall. His father was William Marshall, a sea faring man of Scottish descent. He grew up under the name of Samuel Nevers and in 1758 was a soldier in the old English-French War. He was at the Battle of Quebec, and present at the death of General Wolfe.

Hilda cites no source for this information, but if it is true, and it may be true, Nevers researchers may want to try and verify the story; otherwise there are those of the Nevers name who are not descended from Richard or any other Nevers.
