Rita,

Looked through all your research again. I am convinced that George W Nevels was originally George W. Newells and that he is one of the Newells sons. I think that it is more likely that he is the son of John Newell (brother of Landon) than of Samuel Newell JR. My reasons are: a) George W is not one of Jane Montgomery's heirs, although other grandsons are, and b) John Newell's disappearance from the census by the time George W is 16 fits with the idea that no one seemed to remember anything about George W's parents. I bet he was living with someone in 1830 and we may never know because the census at that time did not list names of the household.
