Hi Brian
one question. Where your ancestors came from to US? Was it Russia, Germany, Netherland, Poland.

As I know the origin of the NAME Netzel is to find in the area of North-coast of Netherland and Germany.
Most of the families with this name and in this area belonged to a religios group Mennoniten (or sth. like that). During the 17th century a lot of families who belonged to Mennonites were suppressed and poor. So they moved to eastern Europe. Mostly to the area of Danzig (town in Poland). Another big migrating movement happend in 18th and 19th century further to Russia to Wolga area. Later between 1910 and 1940 a lot of Netzel families immigrated from Russia to America, Canada, Australia. And from the 1970s the rest immigrated to the rest of the world as well as to Germany.

I am from Germany and moved from Russia to Germany in 1984.

Cheers,
Alex
