Hi Marylin, thank you for your offer.I know of no names. We were told that in late 1890's papers from the West Indies Co. were sold as scrap so that even if documents existed they would be less than ash now.:-(
The National Archive reps who wrote to us say there is nothing there from Puerto Rico, that there was no reason for the pirates to have taken the records away but documents written by religious leaders say Henrickson looted the city, the cathedral and the Bishop's library BEFORE burning the city in 1625.The following May or June (1626) the boats sent with the loot arrived at the West Indies Co. headquarters... anything could have happened in the (almost) 400 intervening years.
We are looking for Baptism, Marriage and Death record books, City Municipal records by both city and church assemblies, documents from both episcopal and gubernatorial records.Copies of documents to and from the Spanish Crown. etc.I wonder if they might have been placed under Brazilian holdings since that was another big stop for the licensed pirates.
Anyway, if you can wave a magic wand without making it difficult for yourself, you can make the end of the rainbow appear here in PR, where I will be waiting for the pot oflost gold... Be blessed
