Dear Larry,
More information on the Reuvers and Brouwer family can be found on the site http://www.geocities.com/reuvershfh/genealogie.htmhttp://www.geocities.com/reuvershfh/genealogie.htm
On this page you will find two pedigrees. The second one is of a family Reuvers. Under number 16 and 17 you will find your Theodorus Reuvers (1843-1922) and Helena Maria Brouwer (1845-1923). Unfortunately, the pedigree stops at number 47, but from some comments on that site I understand that the maker has more information.
Their respective parents are under 32, 33, 34 and 35. Hermanus Reuvers, born Zwolle (1809-1899), labourer, and Jeanne van Osta, born Bergen op Zoom (1811-1888). Resp. Bartholomeus Brouwer, born Leiden (1816-1881), weaver and Maria Theresia Tong, born Amsterdam (1814-1887), she was an abandoned child!
The following text was of number 1 (the author) in the pedigree.
My mother was the daughter of an architect from Venlo, descending from a family of carpenters and gardeners. Her milieu was the 'rich Roman Catholic life'.
After the war, the father [Reuvers] of my father was a military man. Later on he came to Limburg to work as a functionary for the coalmine Emma. My father walked into a Brunssum shop where my mother lived, and that's how it happened.
Our patriarch Berend Reuvers came from Merzen (near Osnabrück in Germany) to Zwolle (province Overijssel in the Netherlands) as a peat-cutter and to help digging the Dedemsvaart, about 1800.
He and his sons, being immigrants, could not marry the daughters of the prosperous citizens and farmers. So they married girls from the Colonies of Benificence:
Jeanne van Osta was the daughter of a poor man from Bergen op Zoom who became a rather prosperous farmer in the Colony Ommerschans (near Avereest in Overijssel).
Maria Theresia Tong was a foundling from Amsterdam. She was brought to the Colony Veenhuizen (province Drente) as a child, and married lateron Bartholomeus Brouwer, son of a poor weaver from Haarlem, who was brought to Colony Frederiksoord (Drente).
Greetings
Frans Nieuwenhof
