Hendrick Matthijsen Smack (Smak)
I am searching for any information in Netherlands records pertaining to Subject, presumably born in The Netherlands perhaps in the 1630s, who arrived in New Netheerland in 1654, settled in New Utrecht, Long Island, and married Geertje Harmens. The family name was changed from "Smack" to "Smak" in The Netherlands in the seventeenth century, although Hendrick always spelled his name "Smack."His descendants spelled the name "Smock.""Smack/Smak" families lived in Dordrecht and in the vicinity of Hoorn in the seventeenth century."Smak" is found in present-day Netherlands telephone records, especially in the province of North Holland, and more particularly in the region called West-Friesland.
