In the 1800's and earlier sometimes only the Christening date was recorded as this was the day of being "born".Recently I deiscovered one of my relatives with two different years of birth.Later discovered one was heractual bithdate and the other was the day she was Christened (Baptised) and that was used in one record as her day of being "born".Found onewhere the person had a 9 year difference.Different countries have different rules on when to record a birth.Also, years ago, religion played a big part in which day a childs' birthdate was recorded. Nowadays, and in certain countries, rules are much more strict about recording births.
