First, are you a descendant? If so, we need to communicate!(Same thing goes if you can put me in touch with other descendants.)
I have the following, approached from the line of John's wife, Mary COLLINS Netherland.I am descended from Mary's brother Washington COLLINS, and have been researching all lines descending from John COLLINS for a number of years.I have an extensive posting in the COLLINS surname forum, dated today (6/11/00).
Mary COLLINS, daughter of John COLLINS and Martha BRITT, b about 1800, probably GA, d before 1844; m 10 Nov 1819 in Richmond Co, GA to John M. NETHERLAND, assumed b about 1800.Children:
1.Louisa NETHERLAND, b about 1820, m Joseph WARREN
2.Harriet NETHERLAND, b about 1822, GA, m George BOATNER
3.John B. NETHERLAND, b about 1827 in AL, m Elizabeth MCNEIL
4.Martha Jane NETHERLAND, b about 1829 in AL, m 1 Apr 1849 at Tuscaloosa Co, AL to Meady BRUNER
5.Lewis NETHERLAND, b about 1831 in AL, d before 18 Sep 1866, m 26 Jan 1854 in Kaufman Co, TX to Nancy Angeline WILLIAMS
NOTES
Mary was erroneously named as a child of John COLLINS and Levicy A. RUSH in"Pioneers of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama prior to 1830), by Tuscaloosa Genealogical Society, 1981.Levicy was John's second wife and was much to young to be the mother of his children. One of sister Martha's daughters was named Martha Britt LUCKY.
The 1830 and 1840 Census show this family in Jackson Co, AL.In 1830, the head of household is John M. Netherland.Besides John and Mary, there are two male children age 0-5 and one female age 0-5.In 1840, Mary is the head of household. There are 7 slaves, 3 persons in agriculture, and one "learned person or engineer."There are two males ages 10-15, one unknown male 30-40, one female age 5-10, and no females 10-15.
From 1830 and 1840 census, we have the following family structure:
Mary, bn abt 1800
John, bn abt 1800
male bn 1825-1830
male bn 1825-1830
female bn 1825-1830
female bn 1830-1835
The will of John COLLINS suggests that Mary was already dead and identifies five of her children:
1.JOHN B. NETHERLAND
2.LOUISA WARREN
3.MARTHA JANE BRUNER *(m. 1849 MEADY BRUNER)*
4.LEWIS NETHERLAND
5.HARRIET BOATNER
