Andrew Nester was b ca 1838-40 in Knox Co, Tenn, where his father Jonathan Nester had moved from Grayson Co, Va, with his wife Mary (Polly) Eskue. After Jonathan died there about 1840, his widow and their 3 sons returned to Carroll Co, Va, where son Andrew married Mary Ann Haynes on 6 Aug 1856. After Andrew died, Mary Ann remarried to Doctor Green (Doc) Bowling and they moved to Raleigh Co, WVa by 1870, and later lived in Logan and Mingo Co's, WVa. Besides the 3 Nester sons, Mary Ann had 9-10 children by Doc Bowling, including Anna Laura, see below.
Andrew enlisted as private in Co E, 29th Virginia Infantry Regmt on 6 Aug 1861 at Fancy Gap, Carroll Co, Va. He was AWOL on 10 Jan 1862, sick in hospital on 30 Apr 1862, and died at Emory, Va on 10 Jan 1863, but the cause of death wasn't specified as to whether war injuries or sickness.

Andrew's brother Zion Nester had 4 children by Sarah Mabry, and these included Lorenzo Enoch Mayberry, b 19 Oct 1871 Carroll Co, d 13 Nov 1949 Mingo Co, WVa, m Anna Laura Bowling, dau of the above Doctor Bowling and Mary Ann Haynes Nester.
