Canadian Nesters

My late father, Abe Nester, was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and lived there and in Longueuil, Quebec. His father, Samuel Nester, immigrated to Montreal around the beginning of the 20th century from Rumania. Until now, I had thought we were the only Nesters in existence!

I suspect we may not be related to the American Nesters because:
1- American Nesters seem to have been there since the time of Frederick Nester, several hundred years ago, long before Samuel; and
2- American Nesters seem to be Christian, wheras Samuel Nester was Jewish.

It's possible that we may be distantly related, if either Samuel's ancestors converted from Christianity or if Frederick's converted from Judaism. Does anyone out there have any ideas about this, or about the derivation of the name "Nester"? Does anyone know about Rumanian Nesters?
