I have done Nesmith genealogy for many years. I have two different books on the family. One by Benton Nesmith of TX/AL and another by John W. NesSmith of Jacksonville, FL/Statesboro, GA. I am interested to know about the book you mentioned in your querie.
John of Jacksonville's great book pertains to the GA Nesmith who entered thru Savannah, GA, from N.Ireland, while Benton's book deals with his & my husband's line, John Nesmith, fr. Scotland via NJ. His descendants to PA/SC/TN/AL, etc. This John Nesmith came indentured in 1683.
We, also, know of the Nesmith who entered through Charleston/Georgetown from N.Ireland, whom the Nesmith, SC area families descended from.
Have seen so much on Deacon James Nesmith to N.H., also from N.Ireland, 1718.
There was another John Nesmith who came to Maryland, that looked to have never married and had no descendants, that we are aware of. Would be interested in hearing about your relative's book.
I did a lot of research years ago on Scotland's NaeSmyth's families. None was put in books and it is truly buried in boxes from a move I made 5 yrs. ago.
