I have a puzzle, and I'm not sure how NAISMITH fits in, but I'm hoping someone can help. My gggrandmother, Catharine Smith md James Duncanson 6 Mar 1811 in Lexington, Fayette, KY. Her father and stepfather had died, and her mother likely died just prior to her marriage (1811). G. NAISMITH is named as 'guardian to the lady person' at the wedding. My ancestor, Catharine (Nancy) Smith wasn't likely to have been underage. She had moved to KY with mother Elizabeth Toombs Smith and stepfather Walker Pemberton about 1800 from Essex county, VA. In Essex VA. there is a NaiSmith family that lived nearby in Tappahannock. John NaiSmith is named in Essex order book records from 1779-1787, he has apprentices, he votes, he collects bills. He is a block maker with 'heirs and assigns'-1784, 1787 tax list.Could this NaiSmith family in Essex, VA have been related to Miss Smith, in Fayette, KY? I'm hoping someone knows of John NaiSmith of Essex VA's family and of G. NaiSmith-KY.
