Diane-- I'm just discovering my really ancient Nesmiths ( Naismyths/ Naesmyths). Helps me to keep track by following the wives back -- Issobell Loch(b.abt.1643)( m. James Naismyth b. ?),Mary Russell ( b.abt 1619)(m.James Naismyth b.abt 1615), Agnes Burnett ( b.abt 1588) m. James Naismyth b. abt 1589), Joanna Veitch ( b. abt 1555) ( m.Thomas Naismyth b.abt. 1547), Elizabeth Baird ( b. ? ) ( m. Michaell Naismyth b. abt. 1525).
As I surf around I see inconsistency in dates ( and spelling) but these women, at least, have consistently shown up.
Now that I am ready (hopefully) to shed my status as a rank newbie, I am looking for better sources/references than I started out with. Most of my original "hits" were taken on blind faithstraight from the LDS search engine/database, which Inow know is often inaccurate.
I still show most of these really old ancestors as coming from the area of Peebleshire/Posso Scotland.
If anyone has got good resources I sure would love to learn about them.
BTW, my Nesmiths ended up in Middle Tennessee( Dekalb County) in the early 1800's after having first settled in S.C.
