I hope you and Alfred don't mind my jumping into this. I have read the messages posted between you and would like to add my two cents worth, for whatever they are worth. Although I have yet to conclusively attach my ggg Grandmother, Agnes Reid, I would definetly take bets that she is Solomon Reid's daughter, son of William Reid, UE, of Hastings Co.. Because there is such a lack of documentation from that time period, I'm having a problem getting my hands on that elusive piece that will confirm what I believe. Believing Agnes belongs with this family, I have been doing some research on them in the hopes something will crop up naming Agnes. I have also been, for a number of years, researching the Barnum line, Agnes Reid married Caleb Barnum. Once it was sorted out where we truly believe Caleb Barnum's ancestry belonged, and now following the Reid info I have gleaned, I've noticed something of interest. Caleb Barnum's mother was a Nash, daughter of Samuel Olmstead Nash, who, although were in New York 1790's, did begin their American journey in Connecticut. This line of the Barnum Family did the same and as I've come to notice, so did the Reid family. I do not believe that William Reid is the same person as the William Reid you will find in Leeds and Grenville Co., who did arrive here from North Carolina. I have read numerous sources for him connecting him to North Carolina as I have been tracing another line of my family in Leeds and Grenville Co.. These are definetly two different men completely, same name unfortunately. I believe the Reid family of Hastings Co. definetly came from Connecticut, via New York. These families seem to have stayed together as they made their way north and into Canada, beginning in Connecticut, even though numerous members of each of the 3 families remained in Connecticut, not remaining loyal to the King during the revolution. My two cents worth! I would be very interested in learning more of the Reid family of Hastings Co.. And your thoughts... Thanks for your time. Heather Notify Administrator about this message?
