Stroud/Strand marriage to Wm. H. Nelson in Floyd, KY 1822
hello,
There has been some speculation as to the exact last name of the female that married William Nelson, b. circa 1797, son of Emmanuel Nelson of Stokes Co., NC..
A William Nelson married a Sally Strand on March 01, 1822, according to this weblink as transcribed for the Johnson Co. KY roots, Early Floyd Co. KY marriages

I believe this transcriber to be in error as to the spelling of the last name, mistaking the 'ou' for an 'an,'as simply because of the extreme flourishes common to 1800 handwriting, it is most difficult to make out most letters, unless you are familiar with the particular name or letters used in the handwritting of that time period.
I have been doing some extensive research in regards of the STROUD/STRAND name, and because I have Nelson distant cousins much older than myself who have been visited by STROUD cousins, personally.....in the late 1930's, and also, remember their family history being passed down by family, long before computers; and have told me that our commom ggggrandfather William NELSON married a Sally STROUD,and they were the parents of Farmer Nelson, b. 1825, William Nelson, and Eveline Nelson......to which later their Father William Nelson married a Sarah MAYNARD, and producedEmmanuel 'Manville or Mann' Nelson.By this time, the 1830-40's, this family was living in the Twelve Pole Creek, Wayne Co., VA (WV).
I have seen another posting of a researcher, maybe not on this forum, stating that Sally Stroud's father's name was MARK STRAND.......I don't believe he/she has looked too hard into their research, though I could be wrong, too....but the following links shows a MARK STROUDon the 1820 Floyd County KY Tax Lists.

As well as, in the 1850 Lawrence Co. KY Census, Visitation Household # 859 is Mark STROAD (transcribed again;-), age 75, a shoemaker, with wife Sarah, age 70.. living alone; both born VA.This Mark STROAD, is the only name even close to or resembling a Mark STRAND or STROUD.No other persons by the same name or similiar names are living in this county in 1850.
Also, I descend from Farmer Nelson, b. 1825 and his wife Matilda Maynard, b. 1832.....in the 1850 Wayne Co., VA(WV) Census, it lists a Fanny STROUD, age 24, as residing in Farmer's household. There is no relationship listed, but it could possibly be his aunt, or cousin, from his mother's side.I am still researching who this lady is, no luck yet.
I love a good mystery, and this one has definitely been a fun one to try and figure out.....but please know that I am not trying to step on anyone's toes, just help clarify and maybe rectify an error. If we don't look into possible errors and check for inaccuracies, and just accept what we find.....the errors and inaccuracies will only multiply and make it harder for everyone concerned.
Anyone have references or sources for their findings of this line to prove otherwise.... I would love to see it.
Thanks so much.....
Sandi
