Gail, I received your post about your NELSON family and like
Sue I looked at the 1920-30 census also. I have not been to the 1910, but since she has I will just share my theory of
Hugh.
First, do you have a death certificate for Hugh?Is his middle initial "S". Because the census on 1920 looks like it could be an "L", but the 1930 looks like an "S". Depended on the enumerator's cursive writing.
But, I looked at the 1880 TN census for a Hugh b: 1879-80 and found a Hugh "L" 1 yr old, b: TN and parents were
William "L" 33 TN TN TN and Martha C 32 TN TN TN, bros. John G 11, Moses 10, William N 7, Cornelius 4 andthen Hugh L 1, all born in TN. They were in Dist 1 Jefferson Co TN Ed# 169 pg 23, H/F# 173/175.
H/F#177/179 was John W 60 TN TN TN, Margaret 60 TN Eng VA,
and Robert 18 TN TN TN.******Believe to be parents of William L.****
1870 they are in Jefferson Co TN living close, John W & Margaret have a son and 4 daughters older than Robert living with them. William L & Martha only have John G & Moses.
In the 1910 that Sue mentioned the THOMPSON step-son....
you may want to look for him near by in 1920, as I found in the 1930, a "nephew" Oscar THOMPSON with Hugh & Docie/Docia.
The middle initial is a stumbling block, as I see it at this time, until you acquire hard copy proof.
I will be back if I find any proof for you.
Stay in touch.
