Brenda, I compiled a 2 volume (1000+ pages) with active support of both the Nellis and Nelles families several years ago. A considerable number of the families assisted greatly in that effort. I have copies of most of the available resources that are available, but most of the material is in one of several large boxes in my attic. The Loyalists raided their home territory during the Revolution. The entire region was deeply involved in the struggle. The men either fought or were run out of the valley if they were known to be loyalists. There was one known Nellis that was a Loyalist, he raised a large family that spells their name "Nelles" in Canada. All other known Nellis males capable of participating in the war did so, on the side of the Union. At least one was as young as 12. I do not think any of them get paid, they were mostly busy protecting their own families and their friends, and their property. A significant number of them still live in the Mohawk Valley.
