Nellis Family Genealogy Forum

While researching the Nellis family in preperation for publication, we made a call to family members to check their old bibles and to provide us with a transcript of the family records therein. The "marriage" to Magdelen or Margaret Klock was already beginning to be questioned. No one could provide anything about this "marriage" prior to about 1940. One Bible surfaced that was published in (if I recall correctly) about 1850. That Bible had what appeared to be a record probably copied from an older Bible. The Nellis family, by 1850, had long since been an English speaking family, and the record in the Bible was in German. A couple of weeks prior to this discover, I told our oral historian that she was going to have to find some evidence for what had been touted as "Two brothers' marrying "two sisters: a common fable in Genealogy. The rest of the story is that when I told her that I hade received new information, and that it appeared as thougth the Klock-Nellis story was a fable and that he actually married Anna Sabina Dygert, her immediate response was "The Dygert's lived next door to the "Nellis's". Hank Z.Jones, the premier expert on the 1709 immigrants, often says "They traveled together' and "They married their next door neighbor". The Nellis - Nelles history has been published with the correct marriage.
