We've (my father and me) have traced back to a James W. Nelson listed in the Morrow County, OH census. His birthplace on that census is listed as being in Pennsilvania. I'm wondering if there is any chance your William Neilson might be his father.

James W. Nelson |42 M |Farmer Pa

He would have been 42 around 1850 I guess.
