My wifes family name is Nehl (minus the 's') The oldest ancestor I can find of hers is Henry P. Nehl b. 1/29/1829 in Belensorf Germany. d. 9/25/1907 North Washington, Ia. I'm wondering if it is possible, when he immigrated to the U.S. that the 'S' may have been dropped from his name. He was married to Elizabeth Beck b. 3/23/1836 in Bollend, Germany. If anyone can put me on the right track to tracing this family back from her GG Grandpa I would appreciate it. Thanks.
