Nefflen Family Genealogy Forum

I'm glad to see some posts on this family. My grandfather was a friend of the Nefflen family in Piedmont, WV. in the 1910's - 1930's or later. He was also an antique dealer and collector. Among my grandfather's effects were several old documents related to the Nefflen family.
One of the documents we a contemporary "cc" copy of a letter written by J Sands Fells, Chairman of the Democrat Party in Allegany County, MD to the newly-elected governor of MD, Enoch Louis Lowe, dated January 1851. A "Mr. Nefflen" is mentioned prominently in the letter, and the copy my grandfather had was the one prepared for Mr Nefflen as his personal copy. This Mr Nefflen was assisting the Democrat Party in Allegany County with the German-immigrant community. I donated the letter to Allegany College of Maryland in Cumberland, and it resides now in the college's historical collection. I have a transcript I made of the letter should you be interested in the contents.
I still have in my possession two older documents, both from Germany and written in old German script. The one document may be a birth certificate, but that's an educated guess not necessarily a fact. That document is dated 1815, and the name "Louis Gustave Nefflen" is clearly recognizable. I can scan that document for you if you wish. The second document is dated 1847/48 and may be a college degree, again that's an educated guess, for the old German script is difficult to decipher. This second document is fairly large and would be difficult to scan in its entirety. I believe that this Louis Gustave Nefflen is the same man who wrote a book in the late 1840's, a loose translation of which is, "The Jerusalem artichoke as a substitute for the diseased potato, in cultivation and manifold uses, written in simple language for the everyday farmer." lol
I've been hoping to locate relatives of this Nefflen line for several years now, and I'm surprised I hadn't run into your posts here earlier. Best, Paul
