I would like to jump into this conversation regarding the children of Amos Neff and Patience.
I live in Madison,Lake Co. Ohio and I am researching the Civil War veterans of our county. I have obtained a copy of an old List of Drafted Men for the city of Willoughby in Lake County. Included on this list is LUDACICIUS/LUDAFACUS NEFF, age 49, white, single, farmer, born in New York. According to 1860 census records for the other men on the list, the list must be from 1863/1864 when the draft was initiated for the CW. I can find NOTHING for this man. His age "could" be 40 rather than 49, and if it is 40 that would make him a good candidate to be son of Amos and Patience. I cannot locate him in any county of Ohio nor in any other state.
Have you progressed with your research on this family that you know more of Ludafacus/Ludivicus? Could he have moved out of state with a brother or sister?
I have to realize that this sheet is for drafted men who lived in this town, and does not prove that he served. Some draftees had paid other men to serve for them.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
